Easy Health Monitoring

Innovative Blood Testing is a one-man consultancy company for clinical laboratories with 40 years experience in clinical laboratory science. Whole my professional life I worked with passion and pleasure in a clinical laboratory environment. Innovative Blood Testing combines laboratory experience and the drive to search for challenging solutions in the world of clinical analyses while always remembering that every blood sample belongs to a human and that the results are of importance for her/his life.

At the Maastricht Academic hospital MUMC⁺ I served for more than 25 years as manager of the Department Clinical Pharmacy and Toxicology. In 2006 we introduced at the MUMC⁺one of the first LC-MS/MS micro-sampling assays for clinical therapeutic drug monitoring of Tacrolimus in transplant patients. The sensitivity and selectivity of the LC-MS/MS is crucial in determining low concentration’s in micro sampling samples and this technique opens a new world of clinical possibilities.

Together with my business partner we founded the company Dried Blood Spot Laboratory (DBSL) in 2011. DBSL introduced several Dried Blood Spot (DBS) methods for therapeutic drug monitoring. In 2013 we implemented our first assay for the “wellness” market, the vitamin D₃ assay. We developed several assays with volumetric absorptive micro-sampling (VAMS) to monitor health parameters. Currently I am working as a consultant for laboratory companies introducing and developing micro blood assays and development of new high throughput blood assays with magnetic beads in collaboration with Magtivio. In all these projects my knowledge about LC-MS/MS plays a crucial role.

I perceived important differences between managing the analysis group in the safe environment of the Department Clinical Pharmacy and Toxicology at the Maastricht Academic hospital MUMC⁺ and managing your own startup company with commercial drive in a clinical setting. The clinical setting demands validated and quality assured assays while the startup required fast and cost effective. The combination is challenging and especially my experience with both worlds offered a unique experience.
